Write a short story

Do you ever close your eyes and come up with original stories in your head?

Do you like using your imagination to create new characters and worlds?

You might be meant to be a writer. ✍️

At the age of 5 years and 211 days, Bella J Dark from Weymouth, UK is the youngest person to publish a book (female).

If you want to write a book like Bella did, but you don’t know where to start, follow these two steps:

  1. Think about the main character of your story. Is he/she a person, animal or object? What’s his/her name? What does he/she look like?
  2. Consider the story you want to write, and make sure it has a clear beginning, middle and end. It might help you to tell the story to a friend or parent before you start writing!

Get crafty

Are you into arts and crafts? ✂️

Then you might enjoy origami, a simple craft that you can do at home – all you need to get started is some paper.

Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding; out of one single piece of paper, you can create little dogs, mushrooms, butterflies… anything, really! 🦋

This creative activity can keep you entertained for hours while you’re creating fun little gifts for your friends or cute decorations for your room.

12-year-old Ethan Karpes from Sydney, Australia, took the art of origami to a whole other level when he created the largest display of origami seals with 2,619 items.

Create an invention

Did you know that some of the world’s coolest things were actually invented by kids

Inventors are creative people who come up with original ideas that either solve existing problems or, simply, make life more enjoyable. 😌

Take, for example, 15-year-old Gitanjali Rao – a super smart scientist from Colorado, USA.

She invents things that make the world a better place to live in, such as Kindly – a computer technology that helps stop online bullying!

If you want to be an inventor like Gitanjali, you can start smaller.

Think of some variations to things you already enjoy, like foods or toys – and start experimenting!

Examples of other things that were invented by kids are:

  • Popsicle/ ice lolly 🤤
  • Swim fins 🌊
  • Earmuffs 🎧

Build something with LEGO
