Yang Binglin, also known as "Gamer Grandpa", was officially confirmed as the world's oldest gaming streamer (male) at the age of 88!
Not only that, but his online gaming adventures have also made him the oldest videogames Bilibili content creator (male). 😎
Pretty impressive, right?!
Yang lives in China and he used to work in scientific research and engineering. But, after retiring in 1996, he found joy in playing table tennis and - you guessed it - video games! 🏓🕹️
Starting with some small games, Yang later expanded to adventure games like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Sniper, and various puzzle games.
Do you play any of these games?
His collection grew SO MUCH that he now owns over 500 games as he acquired the latest Xbox and PlayStation consoles, including a PS5 gifted to him by Sony and his young fans!
Yang has a wife and 2 kids, and he says they have no objections to his gaming habits - it's actually become a bit of a... family affair.
His grandson, Yang Yihuan, told us: "Although he hasn't travelled much, games have served as a window for him to understand diverse cultures, histories, and scenic landscapes worldwide.
"And even though he doesn't have driving experience, Grandpa enjoys the virtual driving experiences in games, showcasing his gaming prowess."
Do you agree that gaming can introduce you to new worlds and experiences? 🌎
So what does a day in Yang's life look like?
Contrary to what you may think, Yang doesn't spend all of his day gaming, but prefers a healthier lifestyle.
Here is his daily routine:
- 6 a.m: Wake up and prepare breakfast
- 7:30 a.m: Play table tennis
- 9:30 a.m: Visit the market for groceries
- 12 p.m: Post-lunch nap
- 3 p.m: Engage in gaming
- 9:30 p.m: Retire for the night
"Day after day, never changing. Except when travelling," Gamer Grandpa added.
He also has a blog where he interacts with young followers and shares notes and strategies!
Who wouldn't take notes from the experienced Gamer Grandpa? 👀
Saying that he is very grateful for all the love and respect, he encourages young people to prioritize their responsibilities before indulging in gaming, ideally waiting until retirement to fully focus on it...
"We learned from the internet that there was a lady overseas who applied for a similar record, so my grandchildren wanted to try it for me,” he told us about how he found out about the record title.
Yang's record is proof that you can achieve great things at any point in your life, no matter how old - or young - you are!
About his record title, Yang said: "I want to continue to contribute more in the role of a game blogger, guiding young people.
"[...] I hope that children all over the world can truly enjoy and experience the good things in games. At the same time, they can apply what they learn to life and career, and games can inspire more inspiration. I hope every child can maintain their enthusiasm and live a good life and future earnestly."
Congratulations, Gamer Grandpa! 🥳
