Jyoti Amge: World's shortest woman

Jyoti may be small in size, but her personality is larger than life!

With her can-do attitude and infectious smile, Jyoti is proof that the best things really do come in small packages. 😊

Short and sweet

Born on 16 December 1993 in Nagpur, India, Jyoti was an average-sized child until the age of 5.

Then she didn’t grow much more. Ever. 😲

Jyoti has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, and will never grow beyond a certain height.

From the age of four, Jyoti attended school alongside all the other children her age, although she needed to use a desk and chair that was more her size. 🪑

Back in 2009, she was found to be the shortest living teenager (female) after doctors measured her to be 61.95 cm (2 ft) tall. And at just 5.4 kg (12 lb), she weighed only 4 kg (9 lb) more than when she was born! 👶

Jyoti was just 15 at the time, but even then her bubbly personality stole the show. Like lots of teenage girls, she loved her fashion and make-up. She also had a dream – Jyoti wanted to be an actress. 💃

Getting this record has made me feel better about myself. I feel popular, special and important.

A star is born

Jyoti’s first record title was just the beginning. On 16 December 2011, she turned 18 – at which point she took the title of shortest living woman (mobile)

Jyoti was measured at 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.7 in) tall. She had grown a bit since she was 15 but was still short enough to claim the record. 😊

After facing so many challenges in life, a whole new world was opened up for Jyoti after she was awarded her record title. 🌎😍

“I would love to travel to London and to see the different world there.” She also mentioned America and added, “I would love to act in films.”  🎬💃

Happily, all of Jyoti’s dreams have come true. Since joining the GWR family, Jyoti has travelled abroad and met other amazing record holders – including Chandra Bahadur Dangi, the shortest man ever.

It was probably the first time Jyoti stood next to someone she was taller than! 😂

Shortest People

1. Chandra Bahadur Dangi (NPL, 1939-2015): shortest man ever and shortest person ever; 2. “Princess” Pauline Musters (NLD, 1876-95)): shortest woman ever; 3. Jyoti Amge (IND): shortest woman; 4. Edward Niño Hernández (COL): shortest man

Jyoti has achieved big things

In 2013, Jyoti ticked one item off her bucket list - visiting New York City. Even though she’s shorter than one of New York’s fire hydrants, Jyoti attracted crowds wherever she went. 😍 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦

"When people see me and recognise me, they all want to take a photograph with me. Everybody stops me wherever I’m walking. That makes me feel really good."

Jyoti has also achieved her dream and became the world's shortest actress. In addition to appearing on Bigg Boss, an Indian reality TV show, she signed up for the part of Ma Petite in the hit US TV series American Horror Story. 🤩

People like me might be small in stature, but they can also act. Regular people should not underestimate people who are small.
