Today, 17 November 2021, is Guinness World Records (GWR) Day🥳️🎊

GWR Day is a special occasion every year. It’s a chance for everyone all around the world to show off their super skills and attempt a record. 

Loads of records have already been broken to celebrate the day. From backflips and breakdancing to basketball and BMX tricks, check out all the amazing attempts right here. 🤩

In Leeds, UK, gymnast Ashley Watson flew through the air to break his own record. 🦅

His previous record distance was a very impressive 5.87 m (19 ft 3.1 in), but Ash knew he could do even better. 💪

After months of training, he rose to the occasion of GWR Day and backflipped his way to a new record of 6.00 m (19 ft 68 in)

Most sit-down football crossovers in 30 seconds (female) 

Venezuelan football freestyler Laura Biondo decided to celebrate GWR Day in style by breaking TWO records. ️⚽️😎

  • Most sit-down football crossovers in 30 seconds (female) - 62
  • Most double around the world ball control tricks in one minute (female) - 24

Laura already has 11 other record titles, including the most football touches with the feet on a treadmill in one minute (170).

In China, Zhang Shuang pulled a car…with his hips…whilst upside down!

The car was 20 times heavier than Zhang, who weighs 70 kg. He was able to pull it 50 metres (164 ft) whilst walking in a handstand position the whole way. 🤸

Zhang achieved a record time of 1 min 13.27 sec💪

Zhang is a PE teacher at a primary school and loves to show off his tricks to his students. He practices walking on his hands every day – it’s a great form of exercise!

Most BMX time machines in 30 seconds

BMX pro Takahiro Ikeda (Japan) broke not one, not two, but THREE records for GWR Day:

  • Most BMX Stick B in 30 seconds: 37 
  • Most BMX time machines in 30 seconds: 45 
  • BMX - Most turbine megaspins in one minute: 45 

 He also has the record for the most gyrator spins in one minute (59). 😵

Takahiro has performed his amazing tricks all around the world with Cirque du Soleil. He was also the 2016 iBMXff World Championship runner-up. 🚲🎪

Most consecutive cars jumped over on a pogo stick

Tyler "TPhil" Phillips (USA) hopped between five London black cabs on his pogo stick to achieve this record. 😲

The five cabs were spaced about 280 cm apart from each other in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, UK.

The record to beat was four car jumps, which was held by Tyler's friend Dalton Smith. The pogo pals are both members of US extreme pogo stunt group, XPogo.

Ayoub Touabe (Morocco) has some super somersault skills.

He can flip backward or forwards, on two legs or just one! 🦵️

Ayoub’s amazing acrobatics were on full display when he completed 12 one-legged backflips in 30 seconds to achieve this special GWR Day record. 😃

Record-breaking breakdancer Wang Guanwutong (China) is just 11 years old. 😎

The talented b-boy had already achieved this record in 2018 with a total of 55 air flares, but he wanted to try and do better after developing his skills over the past few years.

It was a nail-biting moment as Wang failed his first attempt, but then he went on to smash the record with a total of 94. 🤯

But the breakdance action doesn’t stop there because b-girl Qi Yufan also broke the record for the most consecutive breakdance air flares (female).

The 7-year-old completed 121 air flares in a row!

Iranian athlete Alireza Sadeghi Barzani is known for his epic sporting skills while using crutches. 

He showed off his skills for GWR Day and attempted the record for the farthest basketball shot hit from the floor with the hand, in Dubai, UAE. 🏀

He punched the basketball up into the hoop from a distance of 15 m (49 ft 2.5 in)👊
