Maddex Ranjbar from Caesarea, Canada, was only 10 years old when he broke a world record in 2020.

His secret to success?

Exceptional short-term memory and a healthy obsession with the game of Simon! 🤪

If you haven’t played it before, Simon is an electronic game with 4 buttons in different colours which light up in random order, creating sequences. To win the game, players need to remember the colour pattern and repeat it by pressing the buttons in the correct order.

The more sequences you do correctly, the more points you get. 💯

“My parents would get 8 or 10 sequences at most,” Maddex, now 13 years old, tells us.

And, indeed, 8-10 is a perfectly respectable score in the Simon game!

At least for the average person…

But the most sequences completed in a game of Simon EVER is 84, achieved by – you guessed it – the amazing Maddex. 👏

So how did it all start?

“I started playing the game Simon and realized I was a lot better than anyone who tried playing it, like my parents,” the teen explained.

“After a few tries I started getting 20 sequences right, then quickly went up to 60.”

Once he discovered his talent, Maddex started training to attempt breaking the record:

“It took me approximately 6 months to train. I'd go into my bedroom and try a couple times per week.”

Breaking a world record is no easy task. 💪

And, of course, there will always be obstacles…

“Sometimes I'd have distractions like my parents and little brother and cat coming into my bedroom when I was in the middle of a game.”

But through determination and hard work, Maddex reached his goal! 🏆

“I feel so amazing!” he told us, holding his record certificate proudly.

Maddex is a very special kid with incredible memory. However, in other aspects, he is just like most 13-year-olds.

He has a little brother named Hudson, and he goes to school where his favourite subject is maths.

Some of his interests include:

  • Building LEGO kits
  • Playing acoustic guitar 🎸 and piano 🎹
  • Reading books – his all-time favourite is George’s Marvellous Medicine
  • Learning French as a second language
  • Writing stories – he’s even planning on publishing one soon!
  • Playing football ⚽
  • Riding a bike 🚲 or scooter 🛴
  • Doing puzzles – currently working on a 4,000-piece! 🧩

Do you have any of the same hobbies?

Maddex is thinking of “maybe” attempting to break another record in the future.

His advice to anyone who wants to become a record holder?

“Keep trying and never give up!”.

Congratulations Maddex, you are Officially Amazing! 🥳
