The world’s TALLEST and SMALLEST dogs met up for the cutest doggy playdate!
2 record-breaking doggies met up for the first time, and it was ADORABLE!

At Guinness World Records, we think all dogs are amazing… but these 2 are extra special!
Reginald, the tallest dog in the world, and Pearl the smallest dog, are both from the USA – so we decided to arrange a very special playdate for them…
They had a blast, proving that best friends can come in all shapes and sizes!
Reginald (or Reggie for short) is a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho. But exactly how tall is he? 🐶
Well, he stands a whopping 3 feet 3 inches (1.007 metres) from the ground to his shoulders!
His new friend Pearl is the total opposite. She’s a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Florida and the shortest living dog, measuring only 3.59 inches (9.14 cm) tall. That’s about as small as a dollar bill! 💵
Despite the 2 dogs’ huge difference in height, their owners discovered the pups actually have a lot in common!
When Reggie was born, his owner, Sam, fell in love with the little spotted Great Dane right away.
Of course, Sam didn’t know Reggie would grow up to be SO huge!
“From the time I got him until he was about, I'd say a year and a half, he just grew, like, just non-stop growth,” Sam said.
“Everybody was like, he's really tall. We've never met another dog that's taller than him.”
So before they knew it, Reggie grew into the tallest living dog (male) – but Sam says he’s still a little puppy at heart. ❤️
“Reginald’s personality is deceived by his name,” Sam told us. “[…] He’s just a big baby.
“He acts like a human toddler. He’s super playful, very vocal – very much, he’ll tell you what he wants, when he wants it.”
The Johnson family gets lots of funny questions about Reggie’s size, like:
- how big are his poops (you don’t want to know) 💩
- do they have a saddle for him (no)
- do they ride him (no)
- does he sleep in their bed with them (surprisingly, yes!) 😂
“I'd say the major advantage to having a really tall dog is I don't have to bend down to pet him, he's just right at my arm's length,” joked Sam.
“My face is never dry because it's always being licked, and my heart is always full because he's the best part of it.”
On the other hand, because Reggie is so huge, the family has to do things a little differently…
He can reach the kitchen counters, so he had to learn to eat only from his special bowl, which is over 2 feet tall.
And when he’s thirsty? He drinks right from his very own sink, like a pro. 😎
Reggie gets along really well with other dogs and people, so Sam wasn’t at all worried about introducing him to Pearl:
“He’s very, very cautious and aware. I anticipate that he will be really good with her, and probably be more interested in Pearl’s owners than maybe Pearl herself!”
But how could he not be interested in this cute little doggy?
Pearl is a pocket-sized pup from Florida – and she’s a true diva. 💅
She is so loved by her owners, the Semler family, in Orlando.
Vanesa immediately fell in love with baby Pearl…
“She’s small in size, but she has a big personality!” she told us.
This tiny dog has a huge love for fashion – she’s always wearing the most adorable clothes, sometimes with sunglasses or a hat, and even gets her nails painted!
“Pearl’s wardrobe, I think, is bigger than mine,” said Vanesa. “She loves clothing, I think because she’s always cold.
“She actually chooses what she wants to wear each day, and it’s really funny for me because I can actually see her mood that day.”
She’s strong, opinionated and demanding, and she can tell you what she wants. 😉
But just like Reggie, Pearl also is super sweet – and Vanesa knew she’d have no problem meeting a bigger dog because of her big, big personality.
“When Pearl meets bigger dogs, she is really friendly. I think she has no idea she is a small dog.” 😂
So the day arrived, and both owners and their pooches were looking forward to meeting up with each other for this unique playdate!
The moment the 2 dogs saw and sniffed each other, everyone in the room knew they would get along just fine.
Vanesa and Sam put Reggie and Pearl on the couch, and Reggie laid down to see Pearl face-to-face.
Pearl ran across his giant legs like he was a big, cuddly teddy bear!
Pearl and Reggie quickly became friends, and immediately started roaming around the house together.
All in all, it was a super fun day! 🤪
They even went out into the backyard to run around and play.
“I was surprised Pearl wasn’t more afraid of Reggie. But she was so excited and interested in him, and he was just like 'whoa, I have no idea what that is!'” joked Sam.
And as the owners started chatting, they realized how many things the 2 dogs have in common…
“They have more similarities than differences,” said Sam. “People say ‘only small dogs wear clothing’, but Reggie has a bunch of sweaters he wears… ‘small dogs are high maintenance’, but Reggie is very, very high maintenance. So I think they’re more alike than they are different.”
Just like with these 2 doggies, sometimes we think we’re very different when in reality we have more things in common than we think. ❤️
