Members of the Chennai Hoopers travelled from as far as India and America to attempt 10 GWR titles at Guinness World Records HQ in London, UK, on 20 July.

They managed to break 6 of these records in front of official GWR Adjudicator Caitlin Hyem.

The hula-hooping academy was founded by Vijayalakshmi Saravana, who told us: “All the children had an incredible experience participating in the adjudications in front of the Guinness World Records team.

“It was a unique opportunity for them to showcase their talents, perform under the direct observation of the official team and experience the excitement of the record verification process.

“The experience boosted their confidence and gave them a deeper understanding of the dedication, discipline and precision required to achieve a Guinness World Records title,” she added.

This is your sign to attempt a world record! We believe in you!

Do you like hula hooping? Or gymnastics?

If so, you’ll love this record…

Janani R S from India spent 15 min 14.56 sec spinning a hoop around her neck while in the splits.

She is the first person to hold the record for the longest duration hula hooping with the neck while sitting in cross splits (female).

Let’s be honest, just doing 1 of these skills for that amount of time would’ve been amazing!

Janani also achieved the most spider cartwheels in 30 seconds: 10.

This movement involves kneeling on the ground, placing your hands down beside you and flipping over to make a backbend-like arch. To complete the move successfully, you must rotate sideways with control and land back on your knees.

Another record holder who took 2 GWR certificates back home to India was Vaishnavi Shree R.

She fulfilled the most hula hoop rotations on the foot while in the pelvic bridge position in 1 minute (female): 190.

A pelvic bridge is a yoga pose that requires you to lie on your back, bend your knees with your feet planted on the floor, and lift your hips up to the sky.

The multi-talented youngster then completed the most elbow passes with a hula hoop while wearing inline skates in 1 minute (female): 34.

For this, Vaishnavi had to pass the hoop around her body using just her elbows while remaining balanced on her skates.

Have you ever tried hula hooping with your arms and legs?

Up next was Dhanvetha Praveen Kumar from the UK, who claimed the most hula hoop rotations while standing on 1 leg in 30 seconds (Under 16s).

She spun a hula hoop around her torso 74 times with 1 foot raised in the air.

Could you stay balanced for this long?

Fun fact – Dhanvetha performed nearly 2-and-a-half spins per second.

She’s so speedy!

Here at GWR, we love to see kids attempting records with their family members!

Mamathi Vinoth (Canada) teamed up with her younger brother Bhairav (USA) to attempt the most times to throw and go through a backspinning hula hoop in 30 seconds (team of 2).

They equalled the existing mark of 8, set by K Gokulnath and his four-year-old son Vedathreyan.

Mamathi had to roll a hoop 2 m (6 ft 7 in) in front of her, at which point Bhairav would run through it before it travelled back to her.

This GWR title has since been beaten by serial record breaker David Rush and his 3-year-old daughter Felicity, who achieved a total of 9.

Bhairav and Mamathi also attempted solo records.

Bhairav hoped to beat Dhayanithi Anandavelu’s total of 27 for the most 1-handed cartwheels in 30 seconds, yet his best result was 22.

Meanwhile, Mamathi was just 2 short the record for the most hula hoop rotations around the waist in the bridge position in 30 seconds (80, by Anika Rajesh).

The Chennai Hoopers, who were Young Achievers in GWR 2025, also just missed out on another 2 records.

Dhanvetha was only 3 points off claiming the most hula hoop rotations around 1 knee in 30 seconds (110, by S Pragghnaya).

And Sivathmigaa B (India) was unable to take home the most hula hoop rotations around the shoulders in 30 seconds.

The record stands at 62 (by M S Rogith Mithran), and her best result was 57.

GWR Adjudicator Caitlin Hyem said: “A lot of resilience and effort is required just to get to the point of attempting a GWR title, so despite the fact that not all 10 records were broken, each of the Chennai Hoopers should be very proud of themselves for their hard work so far.”

Never give up on your goals!
