Special skill: Skateboarding!

Hiya, I’m Arisa Trew and I hold the record for the first 720 in a competition (female)! The 720 – 2 full mid-air rotations – is one of skateboarding’s rarest feats… and my signature trick. 😎

I’ve been surfing since I was little and I’m quite good at it, but then one winter when I was 8, because it was too cold to get in the water, I decided to try out skateboarding instead…

And I fell in LOVE with it! 🛹

Fast forward 5 years, I competed at Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, a warm up event for the Summer X Games – there I achieved the 720 for the first time in a competition.

1 month later, I did ANOTHER 720 in the women’s vert contest at the X Games in California, USA – and won a GOLD MEDAL! 🏅

I was 13 years and 108 days old when that happened, making me the youngest person ever to successfully execute this manoeuvre at X Games – a contest that’s been going on for 30 years.

Woohoo!

🔎I go to SKATE SCHOOL!

I go to the LVLUP AUS skate school. We do 3 hours of classes in the morning and then 4 hours of skating in the afternoon! Isn’t that super cool?

The X Games

When it came to the X Games, I just knew that if I wanted to win I’d have to land the 720 trick again.

In that run, I did the sketchiest body variable 540 I’ve ever done – my foot almost didn’t come on to the board, and I almost fell. 😮

That was a bit scary!

As I came up to the trick, I just had to land it… and I did!

It’s amazing how much you can achieve when you put your mind to it. 💪

I could hear my friends cheering and it was one of the most amazing experiences ever.

To become a successful competitive skateboarder, you need determination, a passion for skating and – always – to get a lot of fun out of it!

Being a triple-gold X Games winner

So, I became a TRIPLE-gold X Games winner – what a dream come true! 🤩

It’s astonishing for me. I remember that second time, after I won first place in vert I didn’t really care how I did in park, I just wanted to get on the podium.

But then when I won park as well… I honestly couldn’t have been happier!

And breaking a world record… WOW.

I think my friends and family are all very shocked, but also SO proud of me!

Paris 2024 Olympics and my TOP tip

I saved the best for last. 😋

I recently clinched the women’s park skateboarding title at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and became the first Australian girl to claim a skateboarding medal at the Olympics!

I feel so proud of myself.

If you’re a fellow skateboarder attempting ramp tricks such as the 720, I’d say that it definitely helps to be coached.

I would’ve never been able to land it without my coach, Trevor Ward. ❤️

So, for this or any goal you have in life, don’t be afraid to ask for help and guidance!
