Yiheng Wang solving a puzzle cube

Hi, I’m Yiheng and I can solve rotating puzzle cubes really REALLY fast. So much so, if you started counting upwards from 1, I could solve a regular cube before you even got to the number 4. I’m always striving to get quicker too, breaking as many world records as I can along the way. ⏱️

How it all began...

When I was 5 years old, my mum bought me a Rubik’s Pyramid Cube.

I’d seen my friend playing with a puzzle cube and I thought it looked fun…

It turns out I was correct. 😃

I started taking part in cubing competitions and even within my first year, I improved my solve times significantly.

On 12 March 2023, I set my first world record. 🏅

It was for the fastest average time to solve a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube - 4.69 seconds.

Since then, I’ve gone on to break this record a further 6 times and it currently stands at 4.03 seconds. 🥳

As of 5 April 2025*, I’m proud to say that I also hold the records for the…

  • Fastest time to solve a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube (3.08 seconds)
  • Fastest average time to solve a 2x2x2 rotating puzzle cube (0.88 seconds).

How to become good at speedcubing

I practise cubing almost every day. 📅

Consistency is key if you want to get better at something!

I feel very thankful that my mum is always there to help me.

We often watch videos of my solves and work out how I can get even quicker. 👀

Before I unscramble a cube, I look at it and predict the solution, so then during the recovery (solving) process, I only need to focus on having a good rhythm and not getting stuck.

I generally don’t get nervous during competitions, especially if I feel well prepared. 🧠

I’m grateful for my mentor, Wang Guojie, who helped me understand the complexities of cubing - in a simplified way - when I was only 6 years old!

I also have many other coaches supporting me.

Most importantly though, it would have been impossible for me to break these records without the help of my mum. 💙

The most enjoyable part of speedcubing has to be the record-breaking moments. It’s fun because I know I’m pushing my limits.

Becoming a comic-book hero

I appeared in Guinness World Records 2026 as the hero of my very own comic-book strip. 🦸

This illustration was designed by Inko Ai Takita.

*Since Yiheng appeared in the GWR 2026 book, his record for the fastest time to solve a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube has been surpassed by Xuanyi Geng, who achieved a time of 3.05 seconds on 13 April 2025. However, Yiheng still holds the average version of this record, with an improved time of 3.90 seconds, as of 26 July 2025.
