Meet Daryl Tan, the amazing record breaker who can solve Rubik’s cubes anytime, anywhere!
The 23-year-old from Singapore can solve them while sprinting, juggling, hanging upside down, and even holding his breath underwater. 🤿
Have you ever solved a puzzle cube?
Don’t be fooled by Daryl’s talent, they are SUPER hard! 😩
He currently holds 11 titles with his super skills, most recently (in 2024) breaking the record for most 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cubes solved underwater (unsupported) with a total of 14!
For this title, “unsupported” means that he had to grab all the cubes by himself without anyone helping or handing them to him. 💪
And back on 18 April 2021, he broke a whopping 6 cubing records in a single day – 4 of them while holding his breath in an inflatable bath tub!
Do NOT try this at home…
Daryl said solving puzzle cubes under the water was one of the most complicated things he’s ever done.
He trained for 7 months and bought an inflatable bath tub so he could practise holding his breath. 😶
When he started, he could only hold his breath for one minute at a time, but after all his training, he could do it long enough to solve 16 puzzle cubes!
You can achieve great things if you put your mind to it and are willing to do the work. 😎
Of course, speed cubing (that’s what it is called when you solve puzzle cubes as fast as you can!) while hanging upside down is no piece of cake either…
And yet he broke a few records that way too, such as the fastest time to solve a 4×4×4 rotating puzzle cube upside down - 37.25 seconds.
He told us: “I’m very proud of myself and proud of all the effort I’ve put in.”
You should always be proud of trying. ❤️
Another one of his epic records was when, in just 13.61 seconds, he ran the fastest 100 metres solving a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube.
He said it was particularly hard to hold his hands and the cube still enough while running to be able to solve it!
Some other super fun record titles he holds are:
Seriously, is there anything he can’t do?! 🤪
🔎 Do you have a Rubik’s cube lying around the house, but have no idea how to solve it?
Well, you need to start from the very beginning which, according to many talented speed cubers around the world, is mastering the 4 steps necessary to solving a rotating puzzle:
Give it a try!
