The 🌊 in Florida, USA are now super clean thanks to the group of volunteers at Dixie Divers.
Using teamwork, 633 divers in Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier, set the record for the largest underwater clean up in 24 hours – removing garbage like fishing line, boat ladders, and barbells which were harming ocean creatures! 🐠🐟🐙
Divers for the event flew in from all over the world to become a part of record-breaking history – some who are based as far as Europe and South America.
All volunteers spent 2.5 hours looking for waste.
According to people in the area, the cleanup has improved the water quality for the animals and plants in the ocean, and many are hopeful that it will increase populations. Yay for more healthy fish! 💧🏝
The city of Deerfield Beach has now taken all trash from the attempt and recycled it the correct way.
Recently, more Guinness World Records titles about wildlife and environmental conservation have been achieved.
Earlier this spring, a life-size whale crafted of re-used plastic broke the record for the largest recycled plastic sculpture.
With Dixie Diver’s latest initiative, we hope to see the environmentally-conscious theme continue in upcoming record attempts.
