Think teachers spend all of their time writing on the board, giving homework and grading tests?

Think again!

Teachers are amazing and do such an important job – but let’s be honest, very few of them can be as cool as these record breakers.

From jaw-dropping feats to totally wacky challenges, the following record-breaking educators prove that teaching isn’t the only thing they’re good at.

And since World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5 October, what better time to celebrate their achievements? 👇

Most words spelled backwards in 1 minute

Are you good at spelling bees?

Pam Onnen (USA) holds the world record for most words spelled backwards in 1 minute – successfully spelling almost 1 per second!

Think it’s easy? Try spelling ‘Guinness World Records’ backwards and see how long it takes you… 👀

But how does she do it?!

“I think I am a good speller because I can see the words in my head,” she told us.

“I was surprised when I found out not everybody could see the words; I remember wondering how anyone could spell if they couldn't see words in their head. I am fascinated and humbled that people can do that.”

Most udon noodles eaten in 3 minutes

This record is for expert speed eaters only – DO NOT TRY THIS. 🙅

Teacher Jeremy Lanig from USA loves to eat oodles of noodles. 😂

After going head to head with an insanely big bowl of udon noodles, the equivalent of 10 normal bowls, Jeremy managed to achieve the record for most udon noodles eaten in 3 minutes.

WOW!

Most watermelons stacked vertically

Ashkan Rohollah Doshmanziari, a professor from Iran, can perfectly balance 4 watermelons on top of each other – and he looks cool doing it. 😎

Want to become a pro stacker like Ashkan?

Here’s how he does it:

“I try and concentrate to stabilize two objects on top of each other so that a bigger structure can be built step by step.”

But you know what’s even more mind-boggling?

This isn’t his first watermelon-themed record – he also holds the record title for fastest time to crush three watermelons between the thighs (male) with a time of 10.88 seconds. 🤯

Fastest crossing of America on foot

Do you like running?

Jenny Hoffman broke the record for the fastest crossing of America on foot by a female after running across the entire country in 47 days, 12 hours and 35 minutes!

Jenny typically ran for 13-15 hours every day, starting at 4 a.m. She rarely walked, except when going up steep hills.

Her hard work and determination earned her an awesome record title. 💪

Most flames blown in 30 seconds through fire breathing

Have you ever seen a fire breather in real life?

Well, if you were one of Raederle Sterling’s (USA) lucky students, you would have.

She set the record for most flames blown in 30 seconds (fire breathing) with an impressive total of 68 – incredible! 🔥

She’s even been a professional fire performer for more than 20 years – would you say her side job is a bit cooler than her main job? 😏

Greatest height to drop a protected egg without breaking

And last but not least, this teacher teamed up with his students to break a record together…

Because team work makes the dream work. ✨

Matthew Ma, Charlie Gawthrop, Jeffrey Wang, Breckin Shefflerwood and their beloved teacher Derrick Wood (all USA) have again claimed the record with the viral egg drop challenge, dropping their egg from 25.3 m (83 ft) without it breaking! 🥚

That’s about as tall as a blue whale is long. 🐳
