Pearl is the world’s OLDEST CHICKEN!

Meet Pearl, the world’s oldest living chicken! 🐔
She officially broke the record on 22 May when she was 14 years and 69 days old.
Doesn’t sound like a lot?
Domestic chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) usually only live for 3-10 years – but Pearl overcame a broken leg, a raccoon attack, arthritis, and chicken pox (“Yes, chickens do get chicken pox,” said her owner, Sonya)!
Wow. 😮
“She’s been through a lot in her long lifetime,” said Sonya proudly.
Even though Pearl had both some tough and some happy times, one thing NEVER changed: her family always loved and cared for her, treating the little hen like part of the family. ❤️
Do you have any pets in your family?
When she was younger, she lived outside in a coop with the other chickens. But as she got older and moved more slowly, Sonya made her a cozy spot in the laundry room where she could rest all peaceful and comfy.
But hey, don’t think that our Pearl is lonely – she still goes outside every day to explore and enjoy the sunshine, it’s just that the Texas heat, where she lives, can be too much for her sometimes. 🥵
“Due to her advanced age, she cannot walk very well, but she can scoot and tries to stretch her arthritic legs and claws,” Sonya told us.
“She’s defied all odds because most Easter-Egger Hens live an average of 5-8 years.”
So what does Pearl eat?
- Fresh spinach and lettuce 🥬
- A fruit and nut wheel 🥜
- Chicken food like scratch, cracklings, and crumbles 🐣
She also enjoys cuddling up with the mop in the laundry room, and Sonya says she loves to sleep with her flip-flop! 🩴
“She is welcome to come out into the living room, because she likes to watch TV when she hears it on,” Sonya added.
Pearl is friends with the other 2 animals in the house – an aging cat and a new kitten the family found in a parking lot.
Pearl doesn’t lay as many eggs these days because she’s getting older, but when she found out she was officially a Guinness World Records title holder…
She got so excited she popped out a celebratory egg! 🐣
