He’s known as David “Record Breaker” Rush – and rightfully so, since he has OVER 350 records under his belt.

And this time, the serial record smasher from USA has teamed up with his 10-year-old son Jeremy to claim a title together!

On 3 June, the father and son duo achieved the farthest distance to throw and catch a water balloon, with a distance of 43 metres (141.07 ft) – that’s almost the length of an Olympic swimming pool!

So of course, we caught up with them to find out more…

Jeremy often practises with his dad as they work to develop their skills. David told us: “It is a tonne of fun to go out and practise with my son. It can be practising for baseball, football, soccer, pickleball or breaking a world record.

“We’re always trying to challenge ourselves and improve. We practised at home with different amounts of water, different balloons and different distances at first. We couldn’t even get the throw close to the current record distance.”

So what made them choose the water-balloon record for their attempt?

Because Jeremy regularly practised his catching skills for football and baseball, David thought he might be able to catch a water balloon just as well as a ball…

And he was right!

David told us: “We realized if I could get the water balloon far enough, there’s a decent chance he’s going to be brave enough to catch it. In practice, he had a bunch of them hit him, and either pop or bounce off […]. I asked him if he wanted to stop, and he said no. He was determined to get it.”

Breaking a world record is never easy – whether it’s your 1st or your 300th!

David and Jeremy’s first challenge came when the balloons began shredding as they were thrown at speed.

Through all the practice sessions, many of the balloons had snapped or broken, and some even popped during the official attempts!

But after experimenting again and again with different throwing techniques, David found a way to get the water moving in the same direction as the balloon, giving it more forward momentum…

And they finally made it!

David commented: “When we were finally successful, it was super exciting but also nerve-wracking because we knew we needed to follow the official rules.

“Jeremy wasn’t allowed to move after the catch until the place was marked, and then we had to do all the official evidence gathering before we could really celebrate.”

But through determination and patience, they officially got the record title they worked so hard for!

David’s love for record breaking runs in the whole family: “Each of my boys now has multiple world records, and my 3-year-old girl isn’t that far behind.”

They’re learning from the best – literally.

On 19 July 2025, David and Jeremy also broke the title for fastest time to make a sandwich by a team of 2 (blindfolded/no hands) with a time of 36.50 seconds.

Congratulations, David and Jeremy, you are both Officially Amazing!
