Meet Calen, a teen speedcuber who used his lightning-fast fingers to assemble a Mr. Potato Head in record-breaking time.

Speedcubers are talented people who can solve a Rubik's Cube super fast. They learn special tricks and patterns so they can twist the cube so quickly, sometimes they solve it in just a few seconds!

Calen Seah from Singapore claimed the very popular record title of the fastest time to assemble Mr. Potato Head, in a jaw-dropping 4.63 seconds.

Have you ever assembled a Mr. Potato Head? If you have one, try doing it in as little time as possible!

Now 16, but 15 at the time, Calen said he felt confident he could transfer his Rubik’s Cube skills to breaking the record with a bit of practice…

He told us: “[…] I used to watch Guinness World Records videos as a child, even before I began speedcubing on YouTube and I always imagined what it would be like to actually be able to get a world record for myself.”

Confidence is key!

Calen set his mind on the challenge towards the end of 2023 and he asked a friend to buy him a Mr. Potato Head for Christmas.

What a supportive friend!

He said: “My practice was pretty on and off and there was actually a long period of time where I simply did not practise. I returned to it in the middle of 2025 and got the record at home a few times before I decided to really attempt the world record. Although my first try was disqualified, I tried again in early 2026 and finally managed to successfully break the world record in an official setting.”

So be like Calen: if you really want to achieve something but don’t succeed on your first try, just practise more and try again!

Calen thinks he probably assembled his Potato Head up to 400 times while he was practising. And on the day, it was around the 20th attempt that saw him nail that incredible record-breaking time…

Hey, who said record breaking was easy?

“I felt a sense of accomplishment when I broke it and also a sense of relief, since I have been preparing for it for so long,” he told us. “It felt slightly unreal too, that I finally had my hands on a Guinness World Records title, which was a childhood dream of mine.”

Is breaking a world record one of your dreams?

Calen used to play with Mr. Potato Head as a kid and it was one of his favourite toys, so to use it to make his dream come true is truly special, don’t you think?

The toy features in the Toy Story movie franchise, which Calen is a fan of – he said the movies have a “special place” in his heart and he’s excited for Toy Story 5 to land in cinemas. Are you going to watch it?

But is Calen going to break more records in the future?

Well, he says he’d love to try for some speedcubing titles, including one-handed solves, his favourite event in speedcubing.
