Have you ever made slime?

This gooey, colourful substance can be made in a million different ways, and it seems like everyone has their own recipe… But who has the best in the world?

Madison, of course!

Earlier this year, 10-year-old slime lover from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, USA, Madison Kralik, broke the world record for the longest distance to stretch home-made slime in 30 seconds, with a whopping 34.86 metres (114.37 ft).

That’s longer than a blue whale, the world’s largest animal!

It’s also nearly 30 METRES longer than the previous record of 5.19 metres – WOW!

Her mum, Kristy Kralik, told us: “She decided to break the record due to her love of slime. She prepared by practising at home!”

Practice makes perfect!

So, here is Madison’s special recipe that earned her the record title:

  • Mix half a cup of water and 1 tablespoon of sodium borate powder together in a bowl
  • Add about 45 grams of that mixture to approximately 300 grams of glue
  • Mix well, then add 4 drops of food colouring in your favourite colour (Madison chose blue!)

Will you try this at home?

Once her amazing slime was ready, Madison set it as a lump on the floor and started stretching it, by pulling gently while walking backwards.

Of course, she was super careful not to go too fast or pull too rapidly, to prevent it from ripping. But at the same time, she needed to be fast enough to achieve her goal within the 30-second window…

Who said record breaking was easy?!

Madison’s slime was so well made that, in fact, she could’ve kept pulling a little bit more before the time was up if she hadn’t run out of space…

Afterwards, as per the rules of the attempt, the slime sat for 10 seconds before being officially measured, making sure that it wouldn’t break.

Thankfully it didn’t, and the rest is history!

Madison's record is an amazing achievement in both chemistry and technique, and we couldn’t be prouder of her.

Congratulations, Madison, you are Officially Amazing!
