This horse’s tail is longer than the world’s longest human hair!

Meet Mountjoy’s Ice Princess – or Jenny, for less formal occasions – the record-breaking horse who stole our hearts!

She recently broke the world record for the longest tail on a horse, measuring in at a whopping 412.62 cm (13 ft 6 in) – WOW.

And yes, that’s way longer than the human record holder with the longest hair, Renu Dhariyal from India!

It took the horse from Spring Valley, Ohio, USA, 7 years of growth and meticulous care and upkeep from her keepers to grow this amazing tail.

She is an American saddlebred, lives at an equestrian school and is owned by Mackenzie Lowe and Rachel Estes (both USA). Mackenzie told GWR that she sees Jenny as her “heart horse” and that it “feels incredible to have broken this record”.

“[We] have put a lot of effort into maintaining the tail over the years,” she explained. 

She got Jenny as a present for her 13th birthday, and she has helped her through so much!

“Every time something had happened or I was sad I would go and spend time with Jenny. She is so funny and loves to lick people like a dog! She loves playing outside and treats."

She also told us: “Her coming into my life changed it in all the best ways. I truly could not ask for a better horse. I don’t know what I would do without her and love her dearly!”

 Fun fact – Jenny has not always had a long tail but instead, when Mackenzie first got her, she had actually ripped her tail out!

Mackenzie explained that while the American saddlebred breed is “known for having long and flowy tails, [these are normally enhanced using what is known as] a ‘tail set’ (like extensions for people but tied on when showing).

“We decided to let it grow since a longer tail is something looked for with this breed when showing. Over time, it kept growing and so we decided to see how long it could get and eventually to go for the world record.”

And the rest is history!

But we know what you’re wondering… how do they take care of this magnificent tail?

“We wash and dry it around once a month or as it is needed to stay healthy and clean. After washing and drying, we put it in a braid to help protect it. The process of unbraiding, shampooing, conditioning, drying, detangling and re-braiding the tail on average takes about 4-5 hours.”

It’s not easy having a record-breaking horse!

Apparently, the grooming process is so long that sometimes it makes Jenny “a bit impatient” [almost asking] ‘Are we done yet?’, but giving her treats definitely helps as food is the way to her heart!”

And of course, when people meet Jenny they instantly admire her beauty and, as soon as they see her tail, they’re instantly amazed by its length!

Mackenzie said that she knows Jenny is very proud of herself – and we’re all proud of her too.
