Are you excited for the spookiest night of 2024?
Every year on 31 October, people from all over the world celebrate Halloween by dressing up in scary costumes, carving pumpkins and trick or treating in pursuit of sugary sweets! 🍬
Fun fact - Halloween was originally called “All Hallows Eve”.
Here at GWR, some of our record holders love this annual holiday so much, they’ve set Halloween-inspired records! 🎃
Let’s have a look at some of our favourites…
How loud can you scream? 😱
Jill Drake from the UK let out a shriek which produced 129 decibels in London, UK, in October 2000.
That’s as loud as an airplane taking off or a loud rock concert! ✈️ 🎸
Jill believes her talent comes from working as a classroom assistant… “SILENCE PLEASE, CLASS!”
Imagine how cool it would be to fly!
Especially on the world’s largest broomstick, which measured 32.65-m-long (107-ft 1-in) on 12 September 2006. 🧹
This makes it longer than 3 US school buses put together! 🚌 🚌 🚌
The record-breaking broom was built by a group from the Netherlands called “Kreateam 2006”.
On 26 May 2022, 1,369 people dressed up as vampires to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s gothic novel, Dracula. 🧛
What a fang-tastic achievement!
The event, organised by the charity English Heritage, took place at Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, UK.
Fun fact – Bram Stoker references some of Whitby’s famous landmarks in Dracula, including the Abbey ruins and the 199 steps leading up to them. 🏰
Have you ever carved a pumpkin? 🔪
It can take quite a long time… unless you’re Stephen Clarke from the USA.
Back in 2013, he chiselled a face into a pumpkin in just 16.57 seconds! 🎃
When Stephen’s not rushing for records, he enjoys carving popular film characters into pumpkins, such as Harry Potter and Jack Skellington from Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
