You don’t need to have the most unique looks or super-power, or even the fanciest equipment to make a world record – sometimes all it takes is a rope, an egg, and a spoon!

Around the world, simple playground games that we all know and love have been turned into extraordinary challenges… and even into official world records.

From the longest tug of war ever played to the fastest egg-and-spoon race, we hope these amazing records inspire you to take your favourite games to the next level to achieve eternal glory!

Longest distance game of tug of war

This epic 558.15 m (1,831.20 ft) long game of tug of war was achieved by 10-year-old friends Owen Calvert, Freddie Smith and Otis Sampson, in Tonbridge, Kent, UK.

The 3 pals wanted to do something special to help the charity War Child and support other children less fortunate than themselves, so they came up with the idea of holding the longest-ever tug of war.

After they asked for help from the children of Tonbridge, 490 young people joined in the challenge!

The boys set the new world record using 558 metres of rope, with no part of the rope touching the ground at all once the contest had started.

Seems quite fun, doesn’t it?

Owen said to Kent Online: “It's great we've got the official record. Thank you to everyone who made this happen. We couldn't have done it without you!”

Otis added: “I want to thank everyone who helped make it possible, and I hope the amazing amount we have raised has made a difference to War Child!”

“Tonbridge is a record breaker!” cheered Freddie.

And in case you’re wondering… the day raised £2,500 for the charity – WOW!

Fastest 100-metre egg-and-spoon race

Edward Murphy-Jameson from the UK achieved a new world record with the impressive time of 15.02 seconds.

Although a few eggs were scrambled in the process he ended up with a… cracking Guinness World Records title, ha!

For Edward, achieving something like this and becoming the best in the world at something was a dream he’s had for a very long time.

So, he trained for several months and was eventually able to break this record – which had not been beaten in 12 years – by over 1 second!

This is what happens when you practise, stay determined and try hard – even simple games can lead to amazing achievements.
