Would you dare step foot on the haunted Island of the Dolls?

Do you believe in ghosts? Or do you think all ghost stories are fake? 👻

Well, this one might actually be true...

This is a tale about a tiny, mysterious island to the south of Mexico City, which is – according to legend – haunted by the spirit of a young girl. 😱

The island was owned by a man, Don Julian Santana Barrera, who filled it up with creepy, broken dolls.

Named the Island of the Dolls, or La Isla de las Muñecas, it holds a record for the world’s largest collection of haunted dolls.

When he first moved there, Don Julian claimed to have heard the spirit girl’s voice screaming, "I want my doll."

Sure enough, near where he had heard the screams, he found a doll. He hung it up on a nearby tree as a gift to the girl’s ghost. 🌳

This is where it gets even spookier… afterwards, Don Julian said he started to find more dolls hung up around the island every day.

Whether this is true or not, we know that Don Julian then started hanging up dolls himself, in order to calm the young girl’s spirit.

He didn’t use cute or pretty dolls though. In fact, a lot of them were missing body parts.

Some had lost their limbs, whilst others didn’t even have a head! 👶

Don Julian spent every single day looking for more dolls, digging through rubbish dumps and fishing in the canals for any old dolls he could find. He even traded his vegetables for them. 🥕🌽

Over the years, the creepy dolls were damaged even further by rain and wind, giving them a truly terrifying appearance. 😱

Don Julian continued to collect dolls for around 50 years, until he passed away in 2001.

People aren't sure exactly how it happened... but many believe the girls spirit still haunts the island to this day. 👻

The Island of the Dolls is now a tourist attraction. Would you dare visit it?

The locals say that the dolls come alive at night, controlled by spirits of the dead. They say the dolls whisper, whistle and move their limbs (if they have any left). Others say it’s just the wind blowing. 💨

Whatever you believe, it’s a wise move to offer the dolls a gift as soon as you step foot on the island, so as not to upset them! 🎁
