Do you love animals? 😻

We adore them!

Today, we’ll talk about mammals who break world records.

🔎But what are mammals?

They are usually furry or hairy animals that keep warm and feed their babies yummy milk!

Here are some of the coolest records found in nature...

siberian tiger in snow

Largest wild cat

Known as ‘king of the jungle’, most people believe that the lion is the world’s largest wild cat

But in reality, it’s the tiger!

More specifically, the Siberian tiger, also called the Amur tiger, is a cat that lives in mountain forests in eastern Russia, northern China, and North Korea.

To stay warm in these super cold places, the northern tiger has thick fur, a fluffy mane, and a layer of fat to keep it cozy.

It can grow as long as 3.3 metres (10 ft 9 in) and weigh as much as 300 kg (660 lb).

That’s about the same weight as 70 house cats combined! 🤯

blue whale largest mammal

Largest mammal

Check out the largest mammal ever, the majestic blue whale!

Isn’t it huge? 👀

It can grow up to 25 metres (82 ft) long and weigh as much as 160 tonnes – about the same as 20 to 25 elephants! 🐘 🐘 🐘

fastest marine mammal

Fastest marine mammal

From the largest to the fastest…

When it comes to the sea world, the speediest mammal is the orca!

A male orca was once clocked swimming at 55.5 kilometres per hour (34.5 mph), which is as fast as a car driving through your neighbourhood. 🚙

Orcas are giant dolphins that hunt in family teams and ‘talk’ to each other with clicks and whistles!

giraffe with zebras

Tallest animal

Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth, reaching about 4.6-5.5 metres (15-18 ft) tall from their hooves to the top of their horns! 🦒

They live in grassy places in Africa.

Another fun fact about them is that they have long and pointy, blue or purple tongues. 😲

In fact, their tongues are dark-coloured to help protect them from getting sunburned while they reach for leaves high up in trees.

Interesting, right?

cheetah running

Fastest land mammal

Cheetahs are the world’s fastest land animals, able to sprint up to 28.7 metres per second (103.5 km/h; 64.3 mph) over short distances – that’s definitely faster than most cars on the road!

What’s more, a cheetah's tail acts like a steering wheel, helping them make sharp turns while running as fast as they can.

Imagine riding on one! 🤩

sloth on tree

Slowest mammal

On the other hand, three-toed sloths love to take it easy. 😌

On the ground, they move at a super slow pace of just 2.4 metres (8 feet) per minute – that’s like walking in slow motion!

Sloths spend most of their time hanging upside down in trees and sleep up to 20 hours a day, living the slooow life.

You might think they’re lazy but, when needed, they are also great swimmers, using their long arms to move through the water! 🏊‍♀️
