Privacy Policy

Introduction

We are Guinness World Records Limited in London, U.K. (GWR) and we run this website and Guinness World Records’ social media channels.

This page explains what information we might collect about you and how we use it. It is a short version of our full “privacy policy” for the grown-ups. Please tell your parent or guardian to read that here

Cookies (no, not the edible kind)

First up, we collect something called ‘cookies’ when you are using our website which tell us things like where you are and how you are visiting our site (on your mobile or tablet etc), which pages you have visited, what you have searched for and which websites you visited before and after our site. We use this information to learn how you are using our website, so we can continue to make it great and fun for you to use.

What other information do we collect?

If you are under 13, please don’t send us your information yourself. Instead, you must get your parent or guardian to register an account, sign-up for the newsletter or enter competitions for you. If your parent or guardian does something you have asked them to do for you, or if you are over 13, we will collect your information when:

  • You apply to break a record;
  • Sign-up for our newsletters;
  • Enter any of our competitions;
  • Take part in any of our quizzes;
  • You or your parent or guardian gives information to us;
  • your computer sends us technical information (the bit about the cookies).

The information we may collect is:

  • your name and address
  • your email address
  • your date of birth
  • your social media “handle” (e.g. the name you use on TikTok or Instagram)
  • your log-in and password information for your GWR account

What do we do with this information?

We may use this information:

  • to work on your record attempt application;
  • to send you newsletters that you have signed-up for;
  • to run competitions that you have entered and to tell you that you have won (if you have!);
  • to answer you if you write to us or call us;
  • to recognise your computer, phone or tablet when you visit our site;
  • to work out the types of people who use our site and which bits of it they like best so that we can decide how to make it better; and
  • if the law says we have to.

We may also use your information to contact you:

  • to tell you about changes to our site, our Terms & Conditions or how we use your information;
  • about an account you have created or something you have uploaded to our Site;
  • if you have agreed we can, to send you information about us and what we do;
  • to get feedback or to help you with a question; or
  • To ask for your thoughts about GWR in a survey

Who else might use your information?

Guinness World Records. We have offices around the world and sometimes we may send your information to one of these other offices. If you or your parent/guardian send us information, you/they allow us to share with it with the teams in our other offices.

Other companies. We will only send your information to other companies if you or your parent/guardian say that we can.

What if I don’t want you to have my information?

The law says that, at any time, you can ask us to stop sending you newsletters or updates, delete your information, stop using it, change it or send you a copy of it. You can do any of this stuff by logging into your privacy dashboard here.

If you have any serious issues, you can also complain about us to the person who protects privacy rights in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk.)

Updates

We may change the information on this page now and then. We will tell you about any changes either in an update on our website or by sending you an email.
