Atlantis has been found! Aquaman isn’t there, but mermaids are…

110 professional mermaid performers have broken the record for the largest underwater mermaid show. They performed at Atlantis Sanya - an ocean-themed resort in China on 28 April 2021. 🧜‍♀️

86,000 marine creatures live in Atlantis’ Ambassador Lagoon tank. That’s more than the population of Bikini Bottom! 🐟 🐠

The mermaids elegantly swam around these friendly fish, whilst performing a variety of moves. They included double hand holding, torch rising, side swimming and 360° rotation. 🤩

The show not only received the audience's applause, but also an official Guinness World Records title and certificate. 🥳️

This impressive display of underwater acrobatics took months to prepare for. 🏊

The mermaid performers had to do a lot of underwater training and practise before the show could go ahead. They had to learn how to communicate and work as a team in the deep, fast-flowing water. 🌊

90% of the mermaid performers were official Mermaid Instructors, and they were accompanied by other professional divers to make sure that everyone was safe.

Learning to swim like the mythical creature has become quite a popular activity - there are over 1,000 mermaid diving instructors in China alone.

Logan says, "To anyone who would like to get into synchronized swimming, aquatic performance and being a mermaid - do it. It’s definitely the most rewarding part of my life. For sure."

“My job is amazing. I get to work with my best friends and amazing marine life. I’ve always had a passion for marine biology so this is the perfect job for me.” – Ariana Liuzzi
