Do you like videogames? 🎮
Would you play a videogame created by a kid your age?!
Simar Khurana was just 6 years and 335 days old when she became the world’s youngest videogame developer after creating a super-fun videogame.
The young girl from Beamsville, Ontario, Canada loved gaming and creating so much that she decided she wanted to create her own videogame! That’s why she started learning coding, taking 3 classes a week. 🤓
According to Simar's dad, Paras: “Simar learnt math on her own by watching YouTube videos. While in Kindergarten, she was able to do Grade 3 maths. She was making crafts and games with whatever she had, sometimes just out of waste paper.
“I felt that she would naturally excel at coding as she had an ideal combination of skills. So, I got her to try a demo coding class which she loved!”
However, finding a coding class for Simar wasn’t easy, as most coding institutes simply couldn't believe that a kid that young would be able to learn something so hard!
And honestly, it is hard to believe...
In fact, game development requires advanced reading and writing and most people found it hard to trust that Simar could do both at such a high level for her age.
But Simar and her dad didn't let that stop them and, after a long search, a teacher was found and the developing journey finally started. 🥳
Fast forward a few months, Simar decided she wanted to create a videogame for kids her age.
But who gave her the idea for her first videogame?
Apparently, after her family doctor lectured her and her sister for eating junk food, she came up with the idea for her game, which she named Healthy Food Challenge.
“The doctor said I have to eat healthy, so I decided to make a game about healthy food and junk food,” she explains.
Simar wants to help kids like her learn the differences between healthy and unhealthy food, as well as why we shouldn't eat too much junk food...
What foods do you eat? 👀
Ignore the grumbling from your belly as you take a bite out of this food quiz!
It goes without saying that creating the Healthy Food Challenge was no… piece of cake (get it? 🤣)
When Simar and her dad decided that she would attempt a Guinness World Records title, they realized that they only had... 4 months left to do it!
But, as super-dad Paras told us, “Simar was determined and willing to work hard. We increased her classes […], she started taking 4 classes a week. At the same time she was learning dance, gymnastics and karate which she wanted to continue, as well. 🥋💃🤸
“Imagine a 6-year-old who goes to school and after that, she has 1-2 classes each day and has to do coding projects which required 1-2 hours of practise each day.
“It was intense, [it would be] even for a grown-up!”
Simar loves maths and coding, and she wants to be a game developer when she grows up...
Although, technically, she already is. 🤩
She is very happy with her achievement and, when asked, she didn’t say no to the possibility of attempting more records in the future.
