It’s-a me, Mario! 💪
Did you know that Mario Day is celebrated every year on 10 March?
The date was not chosen at random, but because it looks like Mario's name…
MAR 10 -> Mar10 -> Mario, get it? 😁
In case you’re not a fan (yet!), Mario is an Italian plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom with his twin brother, Luigi.
There are so many games based around these 2 characters, usually about their action-packed adventures trying to save Princess Peach from the villain Bowser. 👸
Celebrate Mario Day with some cool records, fun facts and, why not, by attempting to break a gaming world record!

- The best-selling Mario videogame is the legendary Super Mario Bros. which has sold over 40.24 MILLION copies!
- There is a Mario superfan, Mitsugu Kikai from Japan, who owns the largest collection of Super Mario memorabilia with 5,441 individual, unique items when last counted in 2010! How many more do you think he’s bought since then?

Mario fun facts
- Mario is Nintendo’s mascot. He has been in over 200 games since he was in his first game (Donkey Kong) in 1981! 🤯
- Mario has had many jobs. He’s best known as a plumber, but he was also a:
- Carpenter
- Doctor
- Racer
- Martial artist
- Professional baseball player
- Soccer player
- Basketball player
What can we say, he’s a talented man.
- Mario was originally called Jumpman – you know, because he always jumps around!
- Charles, the voice of Mario, turned up to the audition uninvited. The casting team reluctantly allowed him in and all they told him about the role was: “You're an Italian plumber from Brooklyn […] named Mario. Make up a voice, make up a videogame, start talking and whenever you run out of things to say, that’s your audition.” When Charles heard action he said: “Hello, I’m a Mario. Let's make a pizza pie together',” in a high-pitched, excited voice. And the rest… is history!
